What were you made to do? What is your purpose? We’ve all asked that question before. Whether it’s for our careers, relationships, or life in general. We’ve all wondered what we were meant to do. But it’s clear in the bible that we were all made to do one very important thing- worship God.
Psalm 33:1 KJV states, “Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.” In other words, praising is the right thing to do. We were made to worship God and bring glory to His name, like all other creations. King David echoes his purpose in the following chapter, Psalm 34:1 which says, “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
In Philippians 4:6-8, we are instructed by Paul to “…In everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God….and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Our worship is shown through prayer and giving thanks, as well as singing and dancing. When we come to God with pure hearts and minds, we are giving Him the glory that is due His name.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “Rejoice…pray…give thanks…quench not the spirit…despise not prophesyings…hold fast to what is good…abstain from all…evil.” We are called to always rejoice and understand that God is in control. Living a life that abhors evil, serves others, and is based on humility, will guarantee that our worship will go to God. That is what we are made for.
Worshipping God through selfless love and humility, with song and with dance, with instruments and our voices…is the right thing to do.
Psalm 150:6 KJV: “Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.”
